History of Medical Cannabis

The history of medicinal cannabis dates back to ancient times. Ancient cultures in China, Egypt, Greece, and India used cannabis for fiber and medicine beginning over 10,000 years ago. And physicians in many parts of the world mixed cannabis into medicine to treat pain and other ailments.

In the 19th century, cannabis was introduced for therapeutic use in western medicine but was removed from the pharmacopeia and prohibited by the US government in 1937. In the past twenty-five years, a majority of states have removed legal restrictions and there have been many advancements in how the plant is administered for medical purposes.
